Setting Sail
01:34
|
|||
For thousands of years, we have gone to sea. We have crafted vessels to carry us and we have called them by name. These ships will nurture and care for us through perilous seas. To them we toast, and ask to celebrate Dreamboat Express.
TO THE SAILORS OF OLD…TO DREAMBOAT EXPRESS
The moods of the sea are many, from tranquil to violent. We ask that this ship be given the strength to carry on. The keel is strong and they keep out the pressures of the sea.
TO THE SEA...TO THE SAILORS OF OLD...TO THE SEA
Today we come to name this ship, DREAMBOAT EXPRESS, and send them to sea to be cared for, and to care for us. We ask the sailors of old and the mood of God that is the sea to accept DREAMBOAT EXPRESS as their name, to help them through their passages, and allow them to return.
TO THE SEA...TO THE SAILORS BEFORE US...TO DREAMBOAT EXPRESS.

We're on the choppy seas
Won't stop us going fast
We've got a magic compass
To future present past
If we're boarded by pirates
Or arrested by sea patrol
Nothing will stop us
From sailing to your soul
Every day is shark week
We could hug a manatee
Ithaca is done for
Let’s start this odyssey
I’m charting a course
For your heart-stopping force
We’ll sail into the horizon
The seas will be fair
With us at the helm
Climb aboard our dreamboat express
Screw gender and monarchy
Screw the titanic too
It’s anarchy for this world
And death for this whole crew
Marooned on a island
We’re decaying now
We’ve cursed dichotomy
From the sea up to the clouds
If we never reach you
We’ve got bottles and paper
You’ll hear our message
Just look beyond the surf
I’m charting a course
For your heart-stopping force
We’ll sail into the horizon
The seas will be fair
With us at the helm
Climb aboard our dreamboat express

Whatever Weather

2019
I was young, only 18
In Weston Supermare
Living without a care
Down at the beach
You were hip, and beyond my reach
I couldn’t help but stare
You winked and tossed your hair
Swimming in sand
Wish that this day would never end
Sandcastles and moats
The tide floods all our hopes
Pier kissing, summer fun
Caught running in the sun
I try to make it last
But summer’s ending fast
Only shade’s between us two
I never thought it’d be you
ohhh
I’m just your summer hat
ohhh
But you’re my winter shoes
In whatever weather
It’s always been you
Leaves turning brown
You gave me no reason to frown
Your smile warmed my heart
But for you summer was far
The branches bare
We were old, trying not to care
For me it was love
But you had had enough
Only shade’s between us two
I never thought it’d be you
ohhh
I’m just your summer hat
ohhh
But you’re my winter shoes
In whatever weather
It’s always been you
I never thought it’d be you
Ohhh
You were my only one
But I was one of few
In whatever weather
Our skies will be blue
The snow starts to fall
But you won’t return my calls
The sea breeze is blowing cold
When I don’t have you to hold
I never thought it’d be you
ohhh
I’m just your summer hat
ohhh
But you’re my winter shoes
In whatever weather
It’s always been you
I never thought it’d be you
Ohhh
You were my only one
Ohhh
But I was one of few
In whatever weather
I never thought it’d be you
ohhh
I’m just your summer hat
ohhh
But you’re my winter shoes
In whatever weather
Our skies will be blue

Wickerberry Love
03:27
|
|||
You run away with the lie that you’re taking me back
You don’t realize you’re giving me a heart attack
You gotta take it slow
With the one you know
You stay out late with your friends in the dark of the night
You’ll never find true love til you jump in the light
You gotta take it slow
With the one you know
Waves rise up, pull me out to sea
Floating still, do you still think of me?
I thought we had a wicker berry love
We made this town into a home
With our wicker berry love
I thought we had a wicker berry love
But you strand me on my own
With my wicker berry love
You’ll return from the sea when the sun shines bright
You smile through your teeth, to always dodge a fight
You’re putting on a show
Expecting me to go
You’ve got a new gal but he just ain’t me
You’re holding hands in the light, but it cannot be
You’re putting on a show
Expecting me to go
Waves rise up, pull me out to sea
Floating still, do you still think of me?
I thought we had a wicker berry love
We made this town into a home
With a wicker berry love
I thought we had a wicker berry love
But you strand me on my own
With my wicker berry love
I never knew what I had, but I know it now
I walked away in the dark pushing through the crowd
These are the seeds I sow
Am I a friend or foe?
I thought we had a wicker berry love
You made this town into a home
With your wicker berry love
I thought I had a wicker berry love
But I made you feel alone
In your wicker berry love

Giants
03:17
|
|||
We’re giants
Caught up in your violence
Caught up in your fears and insecurities
You’re scared of what’s inside of me
You’re tyrants
Frightened by our silence
Locked up in your ivory tower away from strife
You’ve never felt real pain in life
We’ll unite the nations
We’ll define generations
You will watch us thrive
Standing tall and alive
We’ll prove you wrong and survive
We’re giants
Walking with defiance
You’re hating all our rationale and dignity
I’ve shown you what’s inside of me
You’re tyrants
You’ve built yourself a virus
Destroying us and never having to look back
The system seems to be on track
You’ve taken back your crown
For control of this town
Watching us fall down
You have stolen the power
Gaining strength by the hour
Make us hide and cower
You’re blind to what you see
You dream a dream for me
You’ve lost humanity
This is it my friend
The final moment from when
The ruler’s back will bend
This is our blissful end

Apocalypse
03:03
|
|||
Apocalypse, apocalypse, apocalypse
The word you're looking for is apocalypse
Apocalypse, apocalypse, apocalypse
The four Holtzmann of the apocalypse
Apocalypse, apocalypse, apocalypse
Dream a little dream of me
We've found, we've kissed, we've loved, we've lost
Break the barrier
we've made, we've shown, we've broke, we've grown
Break the barrier
We've run, we've liked, we've stopped, we've cried
Break the barrier
We've bled, we've hurt, we've screamed, we've cursed
Break the barrier
We've lived, we've prayed, we've sinned, we've died
Break the barrier

Beyond the Dry Ice
03:51
|
|||
And all your friends will be there
And very soon they will stare
Upon the God that could worship them
Another day
And past the make-up and chill
And promises of a thrill
The arms come out for the kill
The hug is toxic spray
And you may pause to find time
But very soon there are rhymes
Vicious beats ensuring that you
March in line
I catch a glimmer of hope
Beyond the perfume and the soap
Someone's whispering…
You will never be mine
You will not be mine
But we will find our grace
Away from the misty maze
And we will steal our flight
Far away from the sweat and lights
Somewhere beyond the dry ice
The dry ice
The dry ice
We are beyond the dry ice
The dry ice
The dry ice
Singing beyond the dry ice
We sang of stars and the moon
Our very soul out of tune
It seems the words that we crooned
Were written in advance
And every step was a cue
Each new gesture reviews
I walk towards you
And create a fun new dance
And would it be such a twist
If I were to resist
And then perhaps you'd insist
We breathe another tune
It seems we can't see the floor
So choking and so impure
Ohh hand in hand…
We'll be out of this soon
Be out of this soon
But we will hitch a ride
Far away from the smoky tide
And we won't sing our song
Unless the chords are kinda wrong
Somewhere beyond the dry ice
The dry ice
The dry ice
Somewhere beyond the dry ice
The dry ice
The dry ice
We are beyond the dry ice
The dry ice
The dry ice
We are beyond the dry ice

Shipwreck
00:37
|
|||
Oh mighty and great ruler of the seas and oceans, to whom all ships and we who venture upon your vast domain are required to pay homage, implore you in your graciousness to expunge for all time from your records and recollection the name Dreamboat Express which has ceased to be an entity in your kingdom.

Under the Rainbow
06:03
|
|||
This city beats against me
Steady, unwilling to be sedentary
Even in the quiet hours I spend
Walking home from your apartment
The sky never completely dark
and me, following the light
houses dragging my feet
Toward home
Toward my room
To sleep in fits and starts
As sun begins to bloom.
I never thought a place could make me
At once warm and cold,
too young too old,
I’m not ready.
I need this city like I could never believe
Never could have dreamed
Ever wanting never to leave
I can’t accept the loss I’m scared I’ll have to grieve,
I won’t.
So I don’t.
I want these streets to cling to my face
like the spider’s web that I break
when the walk to work is a race
That purpling train we always take
will forever pace
through my veins
rumbling over my tapping toes to my brain
back and forth
south and then north
carrying us to the sea.
To spend a perfect day
running
cutting our feet
on the broken shells of the beach
dancing to nonsensical beats
glowing,
the waves pulling us in
washing to shore with their Halloween grin,
droplets of sky
swim her widening eyes
while he’s softly testing his voice.
Calling out the chord of the notes,
dark little eggs we’ve all been curled up inside
we’re finally willing to hatch
hands reaching to crack
the thin dark lines of the staff,
blindly we grasp,
tying a knot ,
linking together our flags
in a quick eighth note melody.
Catchy and sweet
light on its feet
bar ending in a semicolon
Repeat :||
Repeat :||
Repeat :||
Please repeat
Peeling the skin from my fingers, I breathe,
skeleton hands poking through a hole in the seat,
I think, ‘How can we ever have time?
How can I learn to control, to possess this
infinitely stretching numbered line?’
To comfortably let the seconds tick by
knowingly winking their eyes as they pass
like they know the answer to everything I want to ask
moving too fast
for me to catch them by the hand to whisper,
‘How long will this last?
When will I fade cling to shapes in the fog of their past?’
I would happily pale in the shadow you cast.
London, wrap me in your suffocating clouds,
knot my throat with the quickening breath of the crowds,
pleading aloud,
‘JUST LET ME STAY’
Let me always remember the day when
the rhythm of my life was broken
and rhymes ceased to sound the same.
When the weight was unlocked from my chest,
freeing my screaming limbs to stiffly stir in their sockets
after decades spent immobile,
unfurling in the sudden lightness,
lifting my chin to the east they cry,
‘STAND UP’, ‘RUN’, ‘FIND WHAT YOU WANT, IT’S HERE’.
And I will run to you, all of you, every red bus, every bridge, every blade of green,
every droplet of gray, every dark-coated woman hunched in the wind,
every corner pub at five o’clock, I will catch your shoulder and squint into your face because I know it’s here if I look.
And when I turn you around, you
you, when I find you,
I will turn you around and think, ‘You look familiar, have we met someplace before? Are you expecting me?’
And I will take your hand and run and every step is counted,
a second on the clock is ticking, muttering to hurry.
And we'll ride city bikes through darkened parks,
your hands reaching up to scrape the stars,
I would trade years of my life
for one more hour
of following your red tail lights,
blurred by gathering mist.
There will never be enough of this.
This.
The sudden burst of rain,
the sunny day that gently washes our faces in its golden light,
the million rings dried upon the bar counter,
silently tallying nights.
And I will feel the clock’s tick tapping upon my temple and I will clutch you tighter.
And when my time is up
the chime is loud enough to knock me to the floor,
and I will scream,
clinging to the furniture,
climbing over the dining room table,
the slouching sofas of the cinema,
the out of tune bar piano,
the dented door knob that turns inward,
and they will drag me, fingertips cracking,
across the cobblestones,
desperately tracing my name through the dust
our feet trailed across
this city.
And your image will blur and swim and burn like rain
shimmering in the sun
and my voice will break and strain,
‘I WANT MORE.
I WANT TO ALWAYS FEEL THIS WAY.
IT’S HERE. IT’S ALWAYS BEEN HERE.’
But when I click my heels three times I disappear.
